When do we get charts like this:
Business Intelligence in 1830

The charting capabilities of SAP BI and BO are still ver limited. When do we get better ones?
In the mean time, the following idea: There was once a blogg on sdn about custom web items in Java runtime. There was some coding, that could be used to take the numbers from the dataprovider and do whatever ones like. With ABAP! What about adding some cool JavaScript or Java charting libraries to a webtemplate? If I have the time I will try program this. I just can’t find the stupid blog.

activating transformations in prod system

There’s a handy report or function module for everthing. E.g. from time to time it desirable to activate datasources or update rules in quality or production system. Up to today I didn’t knew a report for activating transformations and DTPs. This one seems to help:

Yet, but what about if your system is closed it won’t work. Here’s the solution: RSDG_TRFN_ACTIVATE

Make sure to check out check sap note 1408161. For BW 7.0 it is SP25

I always searching for how to do something. Everything was always done by someone before. There are other blogs around and a lot of reference site. Well, the two most useful sites ares still sdn.sap.com and help.sap.com and others are mostly linking to them or posting personal experiences like I’m starting to do. Some of them are quite funny, those with the endledd lists of tables or transaction codes or interview questions. What are they good for? Yes, for getting a job or a contract, a certifacation is quite useful. And as references? There are sap tables, those are reference for useful reports and tables. Ever heard of ST01? Quite useful. For transaction codes, the table TSTCT is quite usefull and those DD* tables for tables. And F1 for the technical information.

Funny enough, I already did a site for my blog with SAP BW tables. Should I delete it? I think I should give it some use … Don’t know how . Perhaps I should extend them with the key fields and information in case I really used some of those.

display pictures in analysis item

Sometime the business is coming up with strange requirements. A picture in the table where the data is, the numbers. The analysis item in the WAD is not made for this. But, it’s possible to display a picture in a web report:

Define an exception and for the visualization you take an image. This image can be stored in the MIME repository. That solved the issue.

In BW 3.x there was this table class. Nice thing … Is there’s something similiar? That can be used without deep java knowledge?

InfoSource in BW 7

The one about the infosource. Many colleges thougt an infosource was used in BW 3.5 only. Actually, it is still necessary if you want to keep your datasources as 3.x datasources, but then you’re dealing with 3.x infosources.

In BW 7, they can be used to to structure your dataflow:
- making two transformations instead of one. Of cource one could do an expert routine
- applying the same logic to different sources/targets

Well, let’s get started. Recently, the following issues popped up:

- Can I display pictures in BEx Web reports inside an analysis item (the table)? The original requirement was to post certain letters inside the data table, the solutions was a bitmap of a letter.
- Can I connect an InfoSource to another InfoSource.

Currently, I’m too lazy to write about those issues, that’s for later. This blog is intended to be something like a notebook.
